Submitted by: Samana

Samuel Dunn and his wife, Easter Sims Dunn, arrived in Cass County c. 1852 from Georgia with their five children. Samuel set about building one of the
first lumber mills in the county locating it at Center Hill east of Linden. In 1854, he furnished material for the erection of the new Cass County Courthouse. His son, William Martin Dunn, fought and was wounded at the battle of Vicksburg during the Civil War. He returned home to recover and then reenlisted, serving until the end of the War. William Martin married Leanna Rachel Allday, daughter of John F. and Margaret Harrison Allday. The Alldays arrived in Cass County in 1860 from Stewart Co. GA shortly before the commencement of the Civil War. John F. died while serving in the East Texas Artillery in Alexandria, LA in 1864. Samuel Dunn, his wife Easter and Margaret Harrison Allday are all buried in the Center Hill Cemetery between Linden and Bivens.
