STRINGER
James Monroe STRINGER was born in GA in 1832 and arrived in Cass County about 1855-58 via AL. His mother, Joicy (BURKHALTER) NALLS plus many of James’ siblings also moved to Texas via boat to Jefferson, TX and James may have been with that group. James’ father was Williamson STRINGER who died in AL by 1858. Joicy later moved on from Cass County to Young County where she died in 1905.
In 1851 James M. Stringer married Mary E. REEVES (b.1834 d. 1928) in GA and they had 10 children most of which married and raised families in Cass and surrounding counties. They operated a shingle factory on Thomas Lake near Bryans Mill. James served in the Civil War as a Lt. in Co. B, Morgan's Reg., Parsons Brigade/ Steels division.
Their children: 1. Cornelia (Lou) m. James Henry FLETCHER both died in Oklahoma, 2. Thomas Williamson m. Sarah A. MORGAN, 3. James “Jim” Monroe Jr., 4. Georgian Ann m. James Andrew BELL, 5. William Perkins “Buck” never married, 6. Gatsy E. m. George INKELBARGER, 6. Orville “Bud” m. ?, 7. Lillie E. m. Robert LEE, 8. Annie S. m. Robert LITTREL ,10. Charles Baldy “Doc” m. Lucy BROCK.
Mary is buried next to her sister Effie (REEVES) MATHEWS in the Bryans Mill Cemetery and James is buried in the little Bell Cemetery which is said to be located across the road from his old home place near Bryans Mill.
