Submitted by Barbara Warthen Wallace, Great great-granddaughter of Amasa Fletcher.
Cass County, Texas early settler Amasa P FLETCHER (b abt 1820 GA) moved his family from Van Buren Arkansas between 1862-64 and settled near Cusseta. Richard M. FLETCHER also settled there about the same time and may be related. It is also possible that Amasa may have been married twice.
Amasa and “Louiza” farmed and raised their family in the area as did their children. Many related family members remain in Cass and surrounding counties today. Of their seven children the first four were born in Arkansas and the last three in Cass Co. Texas: Sarah J., James Henry (my great grandfather) married Cornelia “Lou” STRINGER and eventually moved his family to the Indian Territory, Francis E. , Mary R., Sabrina C. “Sharp” married John E. “Willie” JONES, John B., Solomon A. who married 1st Mattie VANDERBURG 2nd Lena Pearl CHURCHILL.
In the 1900 census 75 year old “Louiza” Louisiana was living with her daughter Sabrina JONES in Cass County. I believe that Amasa who may have died before 1880 and wife Louiza are probably buried in the Bryans Mill Cemetery in unmarked graves.
