John Rousey Griffin and Lucinda Jane Carson were married at Hickory Hill, Texas in 1861. John left for the Civil War in 1862 and was gone until 1865 when his aunt brought him and her son home from Mississippi in a covered wagon sick. After returning home he lived for only five months. He was a member of the Ninth Texas Cavalry, Co. F. He is buried in the Simmons Cemetery next to an Elizabeth Griffin, who I presume was his mother. The only child of this marriage was Emma Frances Griffin who was born in 1862 after, John Rousey Griffin, had gone to war. It was many, many years before Lucinda Jane married again. She and her daughter, Emma Frances, seemed to move frequently between Hickory Hill and Whitesboro, Texas.
Hickory Hill (Cass Co.) was evidently the home of the Griffins and Whitesboro (Denton Co.) must have been the home of the Carsons. Lucinda and Emma Frances eventually traveled to Montague Co., and were early settlers of Bowie, Texas.
