Doctors Marshall James Brooks, Jr. and his brother Jesse Miles Brooks held an open house, November 9, 1940, from 8 to 10 o'clock in their new clinic at 153 West Grand Street. The location selected by the Doctors Brooks is the stately colonial home of their grandmother, the late Mrs. Eva C. Miles. This spacious home is one of Atlanta's many landmarks and ideal for a modern clinic. The large rooms have been well equipped and furnished with new furniture throughout. It contains a complete and modern operation room, a Diathermy, a Laboratory, examining rooms, office and reception room.
Large baskets filled with mounds of chrysanthemums and other fall blossoms were artistically arranged throughout the building.
In the receiving line were Doctors James and Jesse Brooks, their parents, Dr. and Mrs. M. J. Brooks, and Mrs. G. H. Chamblee.
In the house party were Misses Elizabeth Salmon, Elmarie White, Rina Beth Davis, Geraldine Kennedy, Mesdames William Howe, Jim King and N. P. Hanner.
Arrangements of pink carnations and pink candles in crystal holders ornamented the tea table, which was covered with antique lace cloth.
The Doctors Brooks graduated with honors from Baylor Medical College, Dallas, Texas. both externed at Silver City, New Mexico, and both interned at Charity Hospital, Shreveport, La. Dr. Jesse Brooks is still serving as intern in Shreveport and will join his brother at a later date.
The Doctors Brooks are fine young men and Atlanta and surrounding communities honor their success.
More than 200 friends called during the evening. Out of town guests for this occasion were Dr. Wallas Brown, chief resident surgeon, Charity Hospital, Shreveport, La.; Dr. J. H. Cambell, Pathologist, Charity Hospital, Shreveport, La.; Dr. and Mrs. Jesse M. Deware III, Intern, Charity Hospital, Shreveport, La.; Dr. Holt, Rodessa, La.; Mr. Dee Davenport, Mission, Texas; Misses Ethel Rush, Elizabeth Thomas and Rhodes all of Shreveport and Miss Evelyn Huff, Jefferson.
Note: The current Brooks Hospital was built in 1950 with additions made to this structure in 1972. Dr. James Brooks has passed away, but Dr. Jesse Brooks continues to serve his patients.
