THE OIL INDUSTRY IN AND AROUND AVINGER
It wouldn't be presenting a complete picture of the town to leave out the part played by oil prospecting, discovery and production in the Avinger area.
Ever since 1900 and before every native East Texan, particularly those around Avinger, have been absolutely positive there is oil under his or her respective land holdings, be it a town lot or a 640 acre section. From time to time down through the years all said land owners have had a certain amount of leasing activity popping up periodically. Many test wells have been drilled within a radius of ten miles of the town, most of them dry holes. Several distillate wells were finally brought in about three miles south of town in 1946 and 1947.
Lease and royalty buying booms still occur ever so often and probably will continue to do so in the future. We hope
