F. A. McKENZIE Manufacturing Company
1918-1954
F.A. McKenzie, Sr., lumber yard and sawmill located five miles southeast of Avinger.
F.A. McKenzie Sr., originally from Minnesota, came to Avinger from Old Mexico in Feb., 1918, as a mining prop contractor. In 1922 he purchased a sawmill and remained in the lumber business until his death, Nov. 15, 1932.
Fred A. McKenzie grew timber as a crop on a tree farm located on Farm Highway 729 in the Mimm's Chapel community.
F.A. McKenzie, Jr., upon being discharged from the Navy in 1946, founded F.A. McKenzie Manufacturing Company, a wood products business promarily engaged in the process of converting sawmill waste into a marketable product.
