Dempsy was a community located about two miles South of the present day Bloomburg, before the railroad was built and Bloomburg came into existence.

It was on what was known as the Doss Newton farm. The first post office was established on June 22, 1874, with Andrew Newton appointed as postmaster. It was discontinued November 1, 1887. It was re-established July 7, 1888, with Andrew J. McWilliams as postmaster.

The next postmaster was William R. Kersey, appointed February 26, 1889.

The last postmaster was Henry A. Endsley, appointed March 26, 1889.

His father, W. P. Endsley, operated a store at Dempsey and his son, Henry, used part of the store for a postoffice.

It seems Dempsey had two locations, the store and postoffice were discontinued in the early 1900's.

The school was located at the first Dempsey on the Newton Place. It was at Dempsey most of the children in the area attended school. There was also one school nearer the present town of Bloomburg.

After Bloomburg was founded, Dempsey was discontinued, or ceased to be a town.
