BOY SCOUTS - HISTORY OF TROOP 39

Troop 39 was formed as part of the Caddo Council in approximately 1930 - Mr. G.C. Ford Scoutmaster. Other scoutmasters have been Mr. John Wheeler, Mr. Bunt Blackburn, and Dr. John Massey.

In 1937 Scoutmaster Ford and Billy R. Skelton attended the National Jamboree at Washington, D.C.

The troop participated in the Caddo Council Circus, held yearly at Texarkana.

In 1939 they assisted in erecting the Girl Scout Cabin, also in fighting the Hotel George Fire. In appreciation of the services as fire fighters over a period of years, Morse Lumber Company gave a picnic.

In 1944 at Armory Hall, Texarkana, the troop was among the top 5 of 20 troops participating in a first aid contest with 72 out of a possible 100 score. In the same year the troop took first place in the Silver Jubilee Exercises at Camp Preston Hunt.

The present two patrol leaders are Charles Allen and Wilford Penny, who have attained the rank of Star Scout.
