THE LINDEN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
In the year 1927 the Linden Chamber of Commerce was organized and started out to do the work of a Chamber, fully recognizing its scope of work and its opportunities to be a help in building Linden and Cass County through all these years. It has been active in promoting and building things worth while in both city and county. At the time of the organization Linden had a population of 730. It has now grown to a ctiy of about 1600. It had no public utilities at the beginning, but now has all conveniences, such as natural gas, electric service and deep water well and sewerage system. The Linden Water & Sewer System is owned by the City.
The volunteer Fire Department was organized and the fire truck purchased through help from the Chamber of Commerce. Through the work done by this department Linden enjoys a fine fire record and has an extremely low insurance rate.
The Chamber of Commerce has ever been in the forefront in Highway development and as a result of the labor in this field Linden now has a fine highway system.
One of the most outstanding county fairs of Texas was promoted and developed by the Chamber of Commerce.
The local Chamber has always held membership in and cooperated at all times with the East Texas Chamber of Commerce, thereby helping to build a greater East Texas.
Much time and effort has been given to the growth and development of livestock and farm products, working at all times to create a market for these interests, fully cooperating with other Chambers of Commerce and all civic organizations in the city and county.
The Chamber of Commerce looks to the future, with an objective of doing all things possible to aid in the continued growth and development of all things that make for good.
The business and professional men of the city have, and are giving liberally of their time, talent and money in support of the Chamber and its work.
At the present time O.M. Reynolds is serving as President of the Chamber, C.E. Allen, Vice President and Mrs. Ruth Elrod, Secretary.
