LINDEN HAS BEAUTIFUL POST OFFICE BUILDING

United States Post Office

Since this day, far past, many changes have taken place in the Linden Postal Service. The office has had several locations on the square during this period of time. Two burglaries, with very little loss. One fire, with complete loss of records. Its sales have reached as much as fifteen thousand dollars per year. Money Order business, alone runs approximately $25,000.00 per month.

The personnel has increased from one part time employee to eleven full time employee's. The payroll has now reached a monthly sum of approximately $2200.00. Rural mail Routes serve more than 4000 patrons on 155 miles. The office serves a population of some 1600 within the city limits, and all the out lying and adjacent additions, that have now become a part of the city.

This office is served twice daily, by Star Route, out of the Texarkana Terminal. Mail arriving at 8 A.M. and 5:20 P.M. departing at 9 A.M. and 5:30 P.M. each day except Sunday and holidays, when there is only one delivery at 8 A.M.

In 1937-1938, the Federal Post Office and Agricultural Building was erected at a cost of $67,000.00, and was one of the few buildings ever erected for a third class office. Since the erection of the building the office has advanced to an office of the Second Class.

It is said that Linden is the only City in the US without a Railroad that has a Federal Building.
