W/o Michael Shelby Bockman, buried in Simmons Cemetery, Marion County, TX ; b. TN; d. Cass County, TX; Legend is that Mrs Bockman became ill while traveling, died, and was buried here. However, there are two headright surveys in the area: William Bockman, A-65, and Michael Bockman, A-112; NOTE: Per Sandy Miller - D/o John Boyd (1777-1837) and Mary Elizabeth Leath (1785- ____) They are buried in John Boyd Cemetery in Putnam County, TN; Ruth was born in TN & later moved to Dade County, GA with her husband, Michael Bockmon and still later to Cass County, TX, near Linden. She was attacked by a bull in the family pasture and died from her injuries. She was buried in the pasture, the only grave in that place, which is sometimes called 'Bockmon Cemetery'.A family, that later purchased the land, lives near the grave. Not knowing who she was or who her family was, they repaired her broken headstone, planted flowers and take care of the gravesite. Her great-great-granddaughter, Marcy (Brown) O'Malley, later added a new headstone, which was placed beside the old one. |
