HELEN SMITH HUGHES SPRINGS, Texas-Helen Smith, 85, of Daingerfield, Texas, died Monday, July 26, 2004, in a Longview hospital. Mrs. Smith was born Feb. 25, 1919, in Nacogdoches, Texas. She was an employee of Pinecrest Nursing Home and a member of Bradfield Chapel Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dial Smith, on March 31, 1972. Survivors include three sons, Don Smith of Longview, Daniel Smith of Pritchett, Texas, and Ted Smith of Tyler, Texas; two daughters, Fayla Matthews of Arlington, Texas, and Margie Wilson of Jenkins, Texas; one brother Bonnie Palmer of Logansport, La.; two sisters, Clara Hooper of Carthage, Texas, and Betty Sue Vega of Bridgeport, Texas; six grandchildren; and a number of other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dial Smith. She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law: Don and Patty Smith of Longview, Daniel and Lanelle Smith of Pritchett, and Ted Smith of Tyler; two daughters and sons-in-law, Fayla and Lee Ray Matthews of Arlington and Margie and Kenneth Wilson Jr. of Jenkins; one brother, Bonnie Palmer of Logansport, La.; two sisters, Clara Hooper of Carthage and Betty Sue Vega of Bridgeport; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
