James W. Spurlin Sr. HUGHES SPRINGS — Services for James Wright Spurlin Sr., 76, of Hughes Springs will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 11, at Reeder-Davis Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Curtis Hall and the Rev. Ricky Vestal officiating. Burial will follow in the Hughes Springs Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home. Mr. Spurlin died Thursday, July 8, 2004, in a Linden hospital after a long illness. Mr. Spurlin was born March 13, 1928, and was a lifelong resident of Hughes Springs. He was a 1947 graduate of Hughes Springs High School. Mr. Spurlin was a member of the Baptist church. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Spurlin was employed by Lone Star Steel Co. for 29 years and retired in 1972. He coached little league baseball for many years. Mr. Spurlin married Mary Breazeale on April 24, 1953, and enjoyed 51 years of marriage. Mr. Spurlin is survived by his wife, Mary; one daughter and son-in-law, Dale Tervonen of Oshkosh, Wis.; one son and daughter-in-law, James Jr. and Karen Spurlin of Somerville; nine grandchildren, Susan Tervonen of Oshkosh, David and Dan Tervonen of Texarkana, James III, Jeremy, Jason and Justin Spurlin, all of Somerville, Melinda and her husband, Ellis Roach, and Melissa Wilson of Sugarland; one great-grandchild, Brandon Roach of Sugarland; one brother, Wayne and his wife, Juanita Spurlin, of Hughes Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Mr. Spurlin was preceded in death by his parents, Sam Albert and Lucy Spurlin; one daughter, Mary Lynn Wilson; three sisters, Jessie Spurlin, Bessie Sealey and Lula Wacasey; and two brothers, Jake Spurlin and Jim Henry Spurlin. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today, July 10, at the funeral home.
