HELEN STOERMER HUGHES SPRINGS, Texas-Helen Devereux Stoermer, 81, of Lone Star, Texas, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, after a long illness. Mrs. Stoermer was born Feb. 3, 1923, in Monroe, La. She was a Girl Scout leader, swimming and Sunday school teacher, 1973 Mother of the Year and a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Catholic Women and Altar Society and Lone Star Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include her husband, Uvalde "Rocky" Stoermer; three sons, Scoggie Stoermer of Lone Star, Karl Stoermer of McLean, Va., and Jerry Stoermer of Hearne, Texas; six daughters, Dolly Trimmell and Yvette Jirka of Longview, Texas, Janine Burrows of Fort Meyers, Fla., Mary Davis of Lone Star, Helen Jirka of Hoschton, Ga., and Josie Kachnik of Henderson, Nev.; three sisters, Margaret Gilmore of Columbia, S.C., Mary Louise Devereux of Monroe and Kath Greene of Albuquerque, N.M.; 22 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives. Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Daingerfield, Texas, with Monsignor Flynn officiating. Burial will be in Our Lady of the Pines Cemetery, Daingerfield, under direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the church. Memorials may be made to American Diabetic Association, Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, or Right to Life.
