This
is a photo of my husband's grandfather, James Caswell McGowen,
Jr. (there are several variations I've seen on the possible
spelling of his middle name). He was born 13 Nov. 1884 in Decatur,
TX. His parents, James Caswell McGowen, Sr. (1830-1918) and
Esther Caroline (Baker) McGowen (1849-1929) lived in Clay
Co. as seen on the 1900 and 1910 census. He, James Jr., had
7 siblings (4 sisters and 3 brothers), some who were born and
married in Clay County. They were Rosa Lee McGowen (m. Bobbitt),
Eliza Francis McGowen (m. Holley), Maggie Lou McGowen (m. Moore),
George Franklin McGowen (m. Sparks), Annie E. McGowen (m. Draper),
John Abner McGowen (m. Thompson), and Samuel Archie McGowen (m.
Fuller). James' parents and many of his siblings are buried in
the Pleasant Valley Cemetery there in Clay County.
I am trying to find out who
was the father of James C. McGowen, Sr.. He died and is buried
in Clay County but I have not found a death certificate for him
and do not know much at all about him. I do not know if you would
consider him a "pioneer" there or not but am hoping
you can post the info I have provided and the picture of James
Caswell McGowen, Jr. on the Clay Co. Genforum site. I would appreciate
it very much.
