HILL CEMETERY,
COLEMAN COUNTY, TEXAS
Hill
Cemetery is located in the southwest part of Coleman
County. To reach the cemetery go 5.5 miles south from
Voss on FM 503, turn left and go .5 mile.
The cemetery was orgainized in
1911. The old Hill School, started in 1909, was located
on the south side of the cemetery. Church was held in
this building until it was torn down in 1947 and Bethel Church
built beside the old school building.
This cemetery is well
maintained, with a chain link fence around it. The
entrance gate is on the south fence line. The north part
of the cemetery was been little developed or used. There
is a very unusual marker to the right of the entrance
gate. It is apparently a sample marker and says: "Grave
Marker - $30.00 infant size." We have read the rows in a
snake like fashion, ending at one row and beginning at the
same end of the next row. Some family lots may have been
separated by this method of reading. Reading began in
the southwest corner.
