The Shields Cemetery is located about one half mile north of the Shields Community on FM 2131.  The cemetery was started in 1908 upon the death of the infant son of J. T. and L. A. Gilbreath.

       The cemetery is well kept and fenced, with two entrance gates from the highway.  Little of the far east side of the cemetery is in use.  Roads run from the first (north) gate west to east, turning south before meeting the east fence, turning back west and running to the second (south) gate.  In reading the cemetery, we have called the north part, Section A; the part between the two roads, Section B; and the south part, Section C.  We have read the rows in a snake like fashion, ending at one row and beginning at the same end of the next row.  Some family lots may have been separated by this method of reading.  We have also shown the lot numbers as assigned by the cemetery association.  In some cases, we could not place a name with the proper unmarked grave; and in other cases, we could find no sign of a grave as shown by cemetery records.  A list of these graves is given at the end of the cemetery listing.
