CHS Class of 1965 --- Thirty Years After
Those
four years at Coleman High School seemed like forever at the time, but haven't
the past thirty gone by fast! And it
seems that everything our folks told us about, "Just wait until you grow
up....!," have come to pass. It
seems that we have all gained, weight, if not knowledge. Most of us have some grey hair, if any hair
at all. Is there anyone out there whose
body isn't falling apart? Glasses...who
doesn't have a pair? Judia and I try to
keep a pair in every room in the house.
Most
of us have married, some two, three, or more times. Most of us have children, most of which have already finished
high school themselves and are already married and have given us
grandchildren. How many of us tell our
kids, "Turn down that music; how can you understand what they are
saying? How can you listen to that
stuff." Who would have ever
thought WE would be saying those things?
All
of our memories must be slipping pretty badly, because very few of you could
remember any memories of Coleman High School to write down on your information
sheet for the 1995 class directory. Isn't it odd
that girls and guys (none of which were in our class) that didn't look so good
then, look pretty good now ... and older people really are more appealing than
young ones? Have you noticed that many
of the guys our age have began to wear slip-on shoes, probably because 1) their
muscles will not allow them to bend over to tie shoe laces, 2) even if their
muscles would allow it, their stomach is too big, and 3) their eyes are so bad
that they couldn't see the shoe laces to tie them.
But
thank the Lord, we do remember our old friends (even if we do have to get out
the old high school annuals to help us remember their names) of those years of
growing up and going to high school, our high school ..... Coleman High School. The
times and friends we shared were unique!
Those were some good times, each in their own way. While I planned for the directory and the reunion, I thought of the class wills and prophesy, the
old Round-Up
Senior Niches, but it seemed that
these are things of our past ... things that probably hurt some of us and left
others out. Hopefully those old wounds
have healed, as we have grown older.
Those thoughts were the thoughts of our youth. It is time to put them aside and time for us to grow. And after 30 years since those days of high
school, I see that all of us have grown ... in years, yes, but also in
knowledge, in spirit and in wisdom.
I
am sorry that I was not able to locate and get addresses for all of our
classmates. According to school
records, 103 graduated. If you or anyone from our
class changes addresses, please send me a new address and telephone
number. It is alot easier for you to
send me an address change than it is for me to find you after you have moved. In other words, PLEASE STAY IN TOUCH! Remember, we are fast
becoming "the old folks." In the coming
years, I will not be able to call your parents to get your address.
May the peace of the Lord be
always with you ..... Ralph Terry, June 1995
The
CHS '65 reunion committee for the 1995 reunion consisted of Nell
(Brown) Habiger, Kathy (Goen) Turner, Anthony Strawn, Patricia (Conway)
Berry and Ralph Terry. A noon meal was shared at Norita's Cold
Water Cattle Compnay, with much visiting and sharing of memories
following. Many attended the Coleman Rodeo and dance that
evening. Thirty-five classmates attended.
