2005 Class Reunion

Coleman High School Class of 1975 – 30th Anniversary Reunion
by Amy (Glasson) Hinds

The Class of 1975 from Coleman High School held its 30th Anniversary Reunion on Saturday, October 1, 2005 in the Coleman County State Clubroom, and what a reunion it was.  Classmates from all around, including the state of Missouri came with smiles on their faces as people had a great time trying to identify them!  Each one was greeted at the front of the bank with a run-through sign that said “Welcome Class of 75” made by the Coleman Jr. High Cheerleaders.

There was a special time in the morning for classmates to assemble as well as the teachers that taught them.  A total of 47 (30 classmates, 10 guests, and 7 teachers) were served donuts, fruit, and orange juice punch.  The room was buzzing as people who hadn’t seen each other in many years laughed about memories from way back when!  Each classmate filled out a survey sheet for the “award ceremony” that would be held later that evening.  There were small Memory books for everyone made by the 5”’ grade class of Marble Fails where Jane Johnson Greer is their teacher.  Barbara Graves presented a special presentation to Mr. B. J. Willis.  She presented a ruler to Mr. Willis with the explanation of how many times a ruler was used to measure our skirts and the boys’ hair.  Everyone had a different incident when they were “caught” by Mr.
Willis and his ruler.  Ralph and Judia Terry came and took some candid shots of the group and then the entire group walked down to the steps of the old High School where the group picture was taken.  After all, this class was the last high school class in the old building.  This class was also the first class out of the new High School.  Some may wonder how we pulled that off!!  We all moved into the new Coleman High School in January of 1975, therefore, one-half of our senior year was spent in the old building and the other one-half in the new building!

Around noon, the group departed to enjoy all of the festivities of the Fiesta de la Paloma.  Some opted to drive throughout the town and remember all the things and places that were special to them.

Around 4:00 PM some of the group came back to the bank to do some more visiting.  Then around 6:30, Joe Tabor had a special prayer for the food but especially for the 3 classmates’ families that are no longer with us.  Those three are Terry Pickett, Donny Starnes and Mark Welch.  They were all genuinely missed.  Then a picnic meal was served.  There was a total of 47 there, which included 33 classmates, 13 guests and 1 teacher.  There was a special “award ceremony,”  with Lorrie Jameson Payne serving as master of ceremonies.  Some of the awards were Least Hair, Least Changed, Most Kids and Most Grandkids.  There were many more and we all had a great time with this.  The reunion was dismissed with one promise ---- There will be another reunion in 5 years.  So, Coleman better get ready because we will be back because, “The Class of ’75 is still alive!!”
