The Bluecats Make it 2-0 on the
Season!

The Bluecats were able to hold off the Rogers Eagles in
Brownwood Saturday evening at Gordon Wood Stadium. In a rare regular season
Saturday game, the Cats beat Rogers 35 to 10, bringing their record for the year
to 2 wins and 0 losses. The game summary follows:
1st Quarter: The Bluecats' Dalton DeLeon took the opening kick-off from the goal line out to the Coleman 26 yard line to start their first possession. Doyle got 4 yards, but a false start put the Cats back to 2nd and 11. Colton Buzzard's pass to Jamal Agbor was incomplete, but a passing interference call put Coleman on the 33 yard line with another 1st and 10. Doyle ran for 6 yds then Buzzard kept the ball for a 1st down to the 44. Doyle again ran to Rogers' 45 yard line for another 1st down. 2 downs later, Doyle got the handoff and broke through the middle to the 8 yard line. Salazar then gained 2 yds for a 2nd and goal from the 6. A Buzzard "keeper" got the Cats to the 1 yard line and with 3rd and goal, a quarterback-keeper over the center got the Cats their first touchdown. Carlos Barrios' kick-off to Rogers gave them the ball on their own 43 yard line. The Eagles' first play took them had Jordan Sebek run the ball all the way to the end-zone for their only touchdown of the night with 6:58 left in the first quarter. Their PAT was good, Buzzard's PAT was blocked which gave Coleman the lead at 6-0 with 7:17 left in the first quarter.giving them the lead 6-7. DeLeon downed the kick-off in the end-zone to give Coleman the ball on the 20 yard line to start their next possession. Doyle gained 3 yards then Buzzard ran for 2. With 3rd and 5 from the 25, a pass to DeLeon was complete, but a fumble on the tackle gave Rogers the ball back on the Cats' 31 yard line. Rogers' Kason Lowrance ran the ball on 3rd down to give them a 1st down on Coleman's 20. With 3:28 left in the first quarter on 3rd down, Stanley Cole caused Rogers to fumble the ball and Kyle Kemp's recovery gave the Cats possession again, starting on their own 11 yard line. A Buzzard pass to DeLeon got the Cats to the 37 and another 1st down. Then, Buzzard handed off to Andrew Isom who ran through a hole up the middle breaking a few arm tackles to get a touchdown with 1:50 left in the first quarter. The pass to DeLeon in the end-zone was complete for a 2-point conversion, which gave the Bluecats a 14-7 lead, still in the first quarter. Barrios' kickoff went out of bounds, and Rogers started this possession on their own 47. A 3rd and 1 quarterback-keeper got Rogers a 1st down on Coleman's 40. With a one-yard gain on the next play, the first quarter ended with a score of 14-7. 2nd Quarter: Rogers
started the quarter with a 2nd and 9 but an offensive holding penalty made it
2nd and 19. On 4th down, Britt Bartell and Jamal Agbor stopped the Eagles short
of a first down, so Coleman regained the ball on the 32 yard line with 10:36
left in the second quarter. On the first play, Andrew Isom broke through the
middle again, giving Coleman another 1st down on Rogers' 43 yard line. An
attempted quick pass by Buzzard was knocked down by a lineman. On 3rd down, a
pitch out to DeLeon got the Cats to the 27. A Buzzard quarterback-keeper gained
8 yards for a 2nd and 2. However, Rogers recovered an Isom fumble on the next
play with 8:45 left on the clock for the second quarter. Rogers' Lowrance
gained 1 yard taking the Eagles to the Cat's 25 yard line. Two plays later, on
4th and 7 from the 27, Rogers was forced to punt and Buzzard's punt return was
stopped on the 41 yard line. With 7:11 left in first half, quarterback Colton
Buzzard's 44 yard pass to Dalton DeLeon gave the Cats a first down on the Rogers
15 yard line. On the next play, Kahlam Salazar carried the ball into the
end-zone for a touchdown. The PAT by Buzzard was good which gave
Coleman a 21-7 lead with 6:45 left in the first half. With the ball on the 29 yard line, the Rogers
quarterback fumbled but recovered it on the 32 yard line. Later, on a 4th and 1
with 5:05 left in the half Marek kept the ball to get them a 1st down on the 42.
Then on the next 4th down with 2:15 left in half, Rogers punted to Buzzard for a
fair catch. With 2:08 on the clock for the first half on our own 30, a handoff
to Salazar gained 7 yards; on 2nd down Isom ran for 2 more yards giving Coleman
a 3rd and 1. With 1:08 left, and unable to make a first down, Coleman punted and
Rogers' Marek got to the 39 yard line. Marek's pass to Lowrance was complete for
a 1st down to Coleman's 35 yard line. A Marek pitchout to Jordan Sebek was taken
out of bounds at the 33 yard line. With :33 on the clock a pitch out to Sebek
became a halfback pass to Cory Murray out of bounds at the 8 yard line; however
an ineligible man down field gave Rogers a 2nd down and 13 from the 38 yard
line. With :26 left in the first half a pass to the 21 yard line gave Rogers a
1st down. On 3rd and 9 and with 7.9 left in half Rogers came out of a timeout
and Ben Baecker kicked a field goal from the 21 yard line. This brought
the score to Coleman 21 - Rogers 10 at the half.
3rd Quarter: Rogers had first possession of the second half on their own 45 yard line after a Carlos Barrios kick-off. A penalty on the first play gave them a 1st and 15 on the 40. Another flag, for holding, gave them 1st and 25. On 2nd and 23, the quarterback went back to pass and was sacked by Britt Bartell and C. Barrios. On 4th and 27, a bad snap on the punt gave Coleman the chance to block it and the Cats took over the ball on Rogers 24 yard line. With 9:34 left in 3rd quarter, Buzzard's pass to DeLeon was incomplete. A pass to Salazar gained 5 yards, then a pitchout to Salazar was stopped behind the line of scrimmage. On 4th down a pass to DeLeon took him out of bounds and Rogers took possession on downs on the 23 yard line. With 7:45 left in third quarter, a quarterback keeper gave them 4th and 5, so Rogers punted into a fair catch by Buzzard. Coleman started this possession on their own 36 yard line. A handoff to Isom was stopped by Rogers for 1 yard loss. Then, Buzzard's 20 yard pass to Isom was complete for a 1st down on Rogers' 44 yard line with 5:03 left in the third. On 3rd and 10, Salazar ran up the middle breaking a few tackles and got to the 24 yard line for a 1st down. A pass to DeLeon in the end-zone (Pictured left - there was no flag thrown for interference, but YOU make the call!) was incomplete. Buzzard scrambled for no gain, then on 3rd down, Buzzard's 24 yard pass to DeLeon on the goal line was complete for a touchdown with 2:27 left in the third quarter. The PAT by Buzzard was good and gave Coleman a lead of 28-10. C. Barrios kick-off to Roger's Sebek brought them to the 40 yard line. On 3rd down Rogers managed a 1st down on the Coleman 49 yard line. With a flag for a false start and a short yardage gain, Rogers had 3rd and 11 yards to go for a first down to end the third quarter, score still 28-10 with Coleman ahead. 4th Quarter: On a 4th and 4, Rogers failed to get a
1st down and turned the ball over on downs to Coleman on their own 39 yard line.
On the first play Isom smashed through the middle to the Eagle 30. Salazar then
gained 12 yards, but an offensive holding penalty brought the ball back to the
36 yard line. Buzzard then threw the ball to Jamal Agbor who carried it to the 9
yard line. Another penalty, this time against Rogers for roughing the passer,
and half the distance to the goal, got Coleman a 1st down on the 5 yard
line. Buzzard's pass to Dalton DeLeon in the end-zone was complete for a
touchdown with 9:59 left in the game; and a PAT by Buzzard brought the
score to Coleman 35 - Rogers 10. On the
ensuing kick-off, Rogers received another penalty, this time for blocking below
the knee, so they began this possession on their own 15 yard line. Their
quarterback tried the option, but was sacked on the 13. After a 5 yard gain and
an incomplete pass, Rogers was forced to punt which gave Coleman the ball on the
50 yard line with 8:56 left in the game. After a short possession Buzzard's pass
in the end-zone was incomplete handing the ball over to Rogers on downs. Rogers
had short gains and another penalty to give them 4th and 14. After a timeout
their quarterback was able to gain 25 yards for a 1st down on Coleman's 41 yard
line with 4:54 in the game. A face mask penalty against Coleman gave Rogers a
1st down on the 25 yard line. Rogers' Sebek was then stopped by Daniel Valdez,
but not before getting another 1st down. C. Barrios then sacked the quarterback
for a loss of 6. Then on 4th and 6 from Coleman's 11 yard line, Rogers was
unable to get another first down, and the ball went over to the Bluecats on
downs. The Coleman Bluecats were able to hang on to the ball to run the time out
on the clock, winning with the score Coleman 35 - Rogers 10.
