(colemannews.com - 9/14/2008)
1ST QUARTEREven though Coleman won the toss Friday night in Hawley, the Bluecats lined up to receive the first kick-off, and the onside kick ended up being covered by Hawley. That gave the Bearcats first possession of the ball on Coleman's 42 yard line. After an incomplete pass and a couple of plays for losses, Hawley came up with 4th and 13 from Coleman's 45. Their punt to Dalton DeLeon brought Coleman's first possession to a start on the 11 yard line. An incomplete pass gave the Bluecats 2nd and 10. Kahlam Salazar (pictured right- courtesy of Gary Strickland) then carried for 7 yards, which gave Coleman 3rd and 3. Salazar again carried the ball, this time for a 1st down on the 22 yard line. Colton Buzzard kept the ball for 3 yards, and on 2nd down he gained 1 more yard, for 3rd and 6. Buzzard then attempted a pass but was intercepted by Hawley who ran it back for a touchdown. The successful PAT gave Hawley a 7 - 0 lead with 7:35 left in the 1st quarter. The ensuing kick-off to Dalton DeLeon ended at the 32 yard line. A "false start" call gave Coleman 1st and 15 from the 27 yard line. An incomplete pass to Travis Brixey made it 2nd and 15. Salazar was able to gain 3 yards so on 3rd and 12, Buzzard kept the ball getting to the 35 yard line. On 4th and 7 with 6:12 left in 1st quarter, Buzzard ran the ball, after setting up to punt, but did not get a first down. With 5:26 on the clock, Hawley started their next possession on the Coleman 39 yard line. An 8-yard carry gave Hawley 2nd and 2. But a 4-yard loss and a QB sack by Stanley Cole gave Hawley 4th and 11 on the 40 yard line. Their punt rolled to about 6 inches from the goal line with 3:22 left in 1st quarter. This did not deter the Bluecats though. After a 1st down Buzzard gain of 3, on 2nd down, Dalton DeLeon caught Buzzard's pass on the 40 yard line and ran it in for a 97-yard touchdown. Jonathon Sanchez' PAT failed so the score was Coleman 6 - Hawley 7 with 2:36 left in the 1st quarter. The kick-off by Carlos Barrios went into the end-zone, so Hawley started this possession on their own 20 yard line. After a 2-yard gain and an incomplete pass, on 3rd and 8, Hawley passed for a 1st down on the 35 yard line. The 1st quarter ended with a 2 yard loss which gave brought them to 2nd and 12. 2ND QUARTER To begin the 2nd quarter, Hawley received a penalty making it 2nd and 17. A completed pass gave them a 1st down on Coleman's 43 yard line. After a 3-yard loss, and an incomplete pass, a bad snap over the QB gave Hawley 4th and 22 from their own 46 yard line. Their punt rolled to Coleman's own 14 yard line. Coleman was unable to convert this series into a 1st down and on 4th and 12 from the 12 yard line, Buzzard punted and Hawley started their possession on Coleman's 45 yard line. An illegal procedure call against Hawley gave them 1st and 15 from the 50 yard line. With 7:16 left in the 2nd quarter, Hawley had an incomplete pass, a run with no gain, and a quarterback run just short of a 1st down. On 4th and 1 on Coleman's 36 yard line and 6:19 on the clock in the half, Hawley was held by the Bluecat's defense, turning the ball over on downs to Coleman. An illegal procedure
call against Coleman gave the Cats 1st and 15, Kahlem Salazar gained 4 yards,
and Doyle then carried the ball for 15 yards giving Coleman another 1st down on
the 50 yard line. A pass to Travis Brixey was knocked down by Bearcat defense,
but Doyle ran on 2nd down to the Bearcat 35 yard line for a 1st down. Buzzard's
12 yard pass to Dalton DeLeon (Pictured left - courtesy

got Coleman to the 23
yard line. Buzzard's QB keeper took him out of bounds on the 13. On 2nd and 1
with 4:04 left in the 1st half, an illegal procedure call dropped Coleman back 5
yards for 2nd and 6 on the 18 yard line. Salazar ran for 4 yards and Isom
carried the ball for a loss of 4. With 4th and 6 from 18 yard line, another
5-yard penalty gave Coleman 4th and 11 from the 22. Colton Buzzard threw an
incomplete pass, but a flag on the play for "roughing the passer" gave Coleman
an automatic first down on the 12 yard line. On 2nd and 11 from the 13 yard
line, Buzzard ran the ball in for a touchdown with 1:28 left in the half.
The 2 point conversion pass to Dalton DeLeon was good which gave Coleman
a 14 - 7 lead over the Bearcats. 3RD QUARTER Hawley began their first possession of the half on Coleman's 38 yard line after a "horse collar" penalty was called against Coleman on the kick-off. A 3-yard gain gave them 2nd and 7. With 3rd and 7 on the 35 yard line, a pass was completed for a 1st down to the Coleman 26 yard line. However, on 2nd down Hawley fumbled and Coleman recovered the ball. Starting on their own 26 yard line, Buzzard threw a 13 yard pass to DeLeon for 1st down. From the 39 yard line, a Buzzard pass to Trent Hambright gained 7 more yards. Then Buzzard threw a 54 yard pass to DeLeon for Coleman's 3rd touchdown of the night. The PAT by Buzzard was good and the score was then Coleman 21 - Hawley 7 with 8:50 left in the 3rd Quarter. Hawley received the kick-off and started on their own 37 yard line. A pass for 3 yards gave them 2nd and 7. Another pass was thrown for a 1st down to Coleman's 40 yard line. On 2nd down and 16 from the 46 yard line, the QB was sacked by Caleb Walker and Gary Heath for another 1 yard loss. However, on 3rd down and long from the 47, Hawley completed a pass for a touchdown with 6:35 in 3rd quarter. The PAT was not good, so the score was Coleman 21 - Hawley 13 . Zach Doyle received the kickoff and got to the 37 yard line. Salazar then ran 18 yards for a 1st down to Hawley's 45 yard line. Buzzard passed to DeLeon for a 7 yard gain; Doyle carried for no gain; then, an incomplete pass to Hambright gave Coleman 4th and 3 on the 38 yard line. Buzzard passed to DeLeon for a 1st down to Hawley's 7 yard line. Isom ran for a 2 yard gain and an incomplete pass to Kyle Kemp made it 3rd and goal from the 5 yard line. A Buzzard keeper got the Cats to the 1 yard line. Hawley was called for "offsides" and Coleman was given 1/2 distance to the goal. It was 4th down and about 1/2 yard for a touchdown. Buzzard carried but was unable to get over the goal line, so Hawley took over the ball. With an incomplete pass, they had 2nd and 10. On the next play, Hawley's QB was falling out of the endzone and pitched the ball forward; it was considered a fumble so when Leo Jameson covered the ball, the official signaled a touchdown. The PAT was blocked, so the score was Bluecats 27 - Bearcats 13 with 2:22 left in the 3rd quarter. Hawley received the kick-off and started their next possession on their own 41 yard line. On 2nd down they were able to get to the Coleman 23 yard line for a 1st down. A gain of 8 yards then gave them 2nd and 2 to end the 3rd quarter. Score remained Coleman 27 - Hawley 13. 4TH QUARTER On 4th and 1, an incomplete pass immediately turned the ball over to Coleman. They began this possession with the ball on their own 14 yard line with 11:15 left in the game. A pass to DeLeon gained 4 yards. Salazar gained 1 yard and on 3rd and 5 from the 20, Colton Buzzard was dropped down on the 7 yard line. This gave Coleman 4th and 17. A "delay of game" call put the Cats back to the 4 yard line for the punt. Hawley started this possession with a 1st down on Coleman's 29 yard line with 8:56 left in the game. On 2nd down, Hawley was able to get to the 9 yard line. After 2 plays and gaining a total of 4 yard, defensive interference was called against Coleman. With 1/2 the distance to the goal, Hawley received an automatic 1st down on the 3 yard line. Hawley passed for a touchdown with 5:38 left in the game. Their PAT attempt failed, so the score was Coleman 27 - Hawley 19. On the kick-off, Coleman called a fair catch at the 25 yard line. Salazar ran 21 yards for a 1st down on Coleman's 46 yard line. DeLeon caught a Buzzard pass for 9 yards, and Salazar ran for 10 yards to get another 1st down. With the ball on the Hawley 35 yard line, Doyle ran 20 yards for a 1st down on the 15 yard line. Doyle gained 1 more yard, and on 2nd and 9 Buzzard kept the ball for no gain. An incomplete pass to DeLeon gave the Cats 4th and 10 with 3:22 in game. Buzzard then threw up a pass to Doyle in end-zone for a touchdown. The 2-point conversion failed, and the score became Coleman 33 - Hawley 19 with 3:13 left in game. Hawley received the kick-off, and was stopped on their own 41 yard line. A completed pass on 2nd down gave Hawley 1st down on Coleman's 47 yard line. Hawley then had a 5-yard penalty, two incomplete passes with Kyle Kemp defending both, giving them 3rd and 15. Two more penalties gave them 3rd and 25 from their own 38 yard line. They passed to the 50 yard line. A defensive holding call and a 10-yard penalty against Coleman, and suddenly Hawley was 3rd and 5 yards to go for a 1st down. But the Bluecat's defense (pictured right - courtesy of Gary Strickland) came through and two more incomplete passes turned the ball over on downs to Coleman on their own 41 yard line with 2:00 left in the game. Doyle ran for 21 yards and Coleman was able to run the clock out making the final score Coleman 33 - Hawley 19.
