Harris Pharmacy Established in Talpa Years Ago
Talpa has played an important role in the making of Coleman County history
and outstanding among the business firms of Talpa that have contributed
their generous share is the Harris Pharmacy. It has been a part of
the business element of Coleman County since 1904 and from an humble beginning
has grown until today it is unquestionably one of the most modern drug
stores to be found in a city of that size in the entire county.
J. Ben Harris, owner and manager of the pharmacy bearing his name purchased
the store in 1907 and has been consistently on the job every since.
He is alert to the changing times and continuously adds to and improves
his place in order to keep it modern at all times. In 1923, Mr. Harris
erected a new concrete building on the site of his old drug store and furnished
it with modern fixtures, for modern times demanded modern improvements.
In 1929 he added soda fountain and made other improvements that he saw
the need for.
Mr. Harris holds a certificate from the State Board of Pharmacy and
is thoroughly proficient in filling prescriptions and in all other phases
of the drug store work. He is equally interested and enthusiastic
in his civic work in Talpa and is heartily in favor of any move that is
to the betterment of his community. In any and all movements that
tend to make Talpa a better place to live. He is an alert and aggressive
citizen of Coleman County and salutes his neighbor city, Coleman.
