William Irvin Helton was born in Alabama in April 1870, the son of Elizabeth and Henry Charles Helton.  He came to Texas when he was about 14 years old.  He had several brothers and sisters: Faline, Huey, Minnie, John and Robert (both born in Texas) with John living in Louisiana and Robert in Ennis until his death.  W. I. married Mamie Wright (1877-1950) December 18, 1891 in Bastrop County, the daughter of Henrietta Stifflemier and Charlie Wright.  The Wrights came to Texas from Pineapple, Alabama, in December after they were married January 5, 1873.  Charlie died September 16, 1921 at Young’s Prairie.  After that, Henrietta came to Coleman County to live with W. I. and Mamie until her death February 1, 1941.  W. I. and Mamie moved to the county after 1900, living on a 200 acre farm about a mile south of Cross Roads store; just a short distance across the Hords Creek Crossing.  The kids went to Lone Star School.  Their first six children were born in Bastrop County and the last three in Coleman County. They are:

(1) Au Lar.

(2) EttaJewel.

(3) Mae.

5d) William Loyed Jr. (my family called me Son) went to school at Lone Star my first year.  In 1932, the Hords Creek flooded and washed away our house so we moved up on the Crowder place in the Keeney oil field.  That year I went to Union Hill School.  We lived there until sometime after the schools, Lone Star, Union Hill, Camp Colorado, and Watts Creek consolidated.  Then we moved our house to where the old Union Hill school house stood.  This is where we lived when I married July 8, 1943 Mary Jean Aaron, whose parents were John and Becky (see Aaron Family).  I started out working in the “Oil Patch” when I was very young by carrying water to my dad and the others who were working in the oilfield.  I worked for Amerada Petroleum Corp from 1949-1970.  I still work in the “Oil Patch” for The Ard Drilling Company, Inc. of Midland as Production Superintendent.  We reside at Seminole.  We had four children:
