The following is from a great great granddaughter of James K. Kerby:  Penny Perry Hayes -Seagraves, Texas - Penny@povertyhill.us -  January 2007:
 
James K. Kerby enlisted 22 December 1861 at Athens) from Clay County, Georgia into Company G (as known as Highland Guards) of North Carolina 25th Infantry.  He is shown as a Prisoner Of War, also at Athens, Georgia, on 8 May 1865.  He is shown as paroled the same day.

His wife's name was Martha J. Hogsed.  They married in North Carolina.

James K. Kerby died 2 May 1916 and is buried at Glen Cove Cemetery in Coleman County, Texas
