In 1893, Madge became a post office in Coleman County, which was discontinued
in 1907. In 1904, Madge was called School District #10. In
1907, the records of the County Commissioners show, “It is ordered by the
court that the trustees of school District #10 are hereby authorized to
sell that portion of the Madge School building formerly erected for an
assistant’s room to sell for amount named in the petition filed herein
to wit the sum of $40.00.” In 1911, Madge is shown as a school under
Santa Anna High School. I have not found both Madge School and Bee
Branch School mentioned in the same lists of schools. I am told,
however, that Madge was never a school, only that Bee Branch was a school.
Madge was a post office, voting place and store. Possibly the district
was named Madge and Bee Branch was a school in that district. Whatever
the case, Madge is not mentioned after 1911.
