Coleman, Texas Legal Description: |
I have seen no maps cover this part of Coleman before 1930. "In 1929, Josephine Ballard
(widow of Silas Ballard) was residing at 1203 Austin Street. Also
living at this address was Miss Sarah Dunman, a teacher at South Ward School."
(Coleman City Directory, 1929 - Hudspeth.) (Note:
The address of 1203 Austin Street is not given on the 1930 map or at
later times, but rather as 1117 Austin Street. I do not know if
it was given incorrectly in the 1929 directory, or if 1115 Austin
Street address had not been assigned at this time.)
"In 1929, John H. Price,
and his wife Ella (colored), were residing at 1203 Rear Austin Street.
She was a cook. (This address was the dwelling at the rear of 1203
Austin Street." (Coleman City Directory,
1929 - Hudspeth.) Note:
The address of 1203 Austin Street (Rear) is apparently the small
dwelling shown on the north side of the lot north of what is now 1115
Austin
Street.)
The
1929 Coleman City directory and the 1930 and 1948 maps, show what
became 1115 Austin Street as 1117 Austin Street. Sometime between
1948 and 1962, the address changed to 1115 Austin Street. The
auto garage and shed shown as 1116 San Antonio Street on the 1930 and
1948 maps is apparently part of the 1117 Austin Street dwelling, even
though 1116 San Antonio Street. The dwelling shown as 1203 (Rear)
Austin Street must have been located further up the hill (to the west),
and is not shown on these maps.
The dotted line to the right (west) indicated the Coleman city limits at this time.
"In 1962, Ernest W. Bridwell, and his wife Virginia, were residing at 1115 Austin Street. He was a salesman at Hargett's Mens' Shop. Their telephone number was 625-5445. Virginia Bridwell was a salewoman at Hargett's Mens' Shop."
