Prior to the
1948 map, no dwellings were shown in the
center of Block 12 on the east side, only
vacant lots. A servants house and
outbuildings for 114 South Frio Street were
the only structures at this time. By
1948 several dwellings had been built in this
area.

Block 12 -
1948 map |
The 1948 map
shows houses built at 106 South Frio Street,
106 1/2 South Frio Street, 114 1/2 South
Frio Street and 114 1/3 South
Frio Street between 1930 and 1948.
They were probably removed when Stevens
Funeral Home was built in 1955. None
of these addresses are shown in the 1962
Polk City Directory of Coleman, but 112 South
Frio Street is shown in this directory
as vacant. 112 is probably the
same as 114 1/3 on the 1948 map.
This small brick dwelling is now part of
the Stevens Funeral Home property and as
addressed as 112 South Frio
Street. All of the dwellings north
of Stevens Funeral Home had been removed
by 1970 to make room for Stevens Funeral
Home vehicles and parking lot.
The brick dwelling at 112 South Frio
Street has been used since 1955 for
housing of Stevens Funeral Home
employees. As seen by the shape of
the lot for 114 South Frio Street, the
dwelling has always been part of this
lot.
