Schicks Will Note 50th Anniversary
"June 21 has been a memorable day for Mr. and Mrs. Walter A. Schick for a long time, but this year it will carry even more significance than usual because it will be their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married in 1914, and that was a good year. Woodrow Wilson was president, and although clouds were forming over Europe, they had not dropped their shadow on the United States as yet, and the country seemed as peaceful as a rubber tired buggy. Silent movies were a big form of entertainment, and Charlie Chaplain was making his debut on the screen as the little tramp. Ragtime was popular, and elders were clucking over the strange music preferences of youth. The quiet of peaceful evenings might very well have been shattered by a piano playing the "Twelfth Street Rag," or the "St. Louis Blues" or "Abbadabba Honeymoon, " all introduced and popular that year. |
