My grandfather, John James ALEXANDER and my grandmother, Minnie Lee YORK ALEXANDER, lived in Comanche in the last quarter of the 1800's. They came from Borden Springs, Alabama and Van Wert, Georgia, respectively. He owned and operated a mercantile store on one of the corners of the square. They belonged to the Comanche (First?) Christian Church and he was an alderman and a mason. After his death (not long after his store burned down, reportedly caused by youth smoking in the unoccupied upstairs) my grandmother moved to Dallas with her son, Bacon, and two daughters, Annie Lee (my mother), and Aleph. Does anyone have any information about the store, ads for it or anything at all about this family. Does the Christian Church in Comanche have a history written? Thanks for any help.

I am looking for any available information on John Nathan GOINS - (last name may be spelled GOIN, GOEN, GOENS, GOING, GOINGS, GOWEN, GOWENS). According to LDS records, he was born in 1849 in Athens, Henderson County, but according to Brown County 1920 census record showing his son John Goins as head of household, under "birthplace of father" he was born in France. Family oral tradition says he was "French and Indian". His name was given as "Nath Goins" on his son's death certificate His son (my wife's grandfather), John Christopher Columbus GOINS, was b. July 17, 1875 in Athens. His mother was Emily R. JONES; we have been unable as yet to find record of her marriage to John Nathan GOINS. According to LDS records, she was born in Athens in 1853, was divorced from John Nathan GOINS, and her father was Frederick JONES, mother was Harriet (?). We do not know when she left Henderson county, but do know she married Mr. J.B. HOWARD in Comanche County on December 23, 1877. In the index to the 1880 Comamnche County census, a Joab HOWARD is listed as head of household, and in the same household is listed "GOEN(?), John C.", age 5. We will be happy to share any information we have with anyone searching same surnames, locations, etc. Jon and Sherri RIVARD

Looking for information on Micage STONE f/o Martha May STONE. She was born May 24, 1873 in Sipe Springs. He was married to Sarah SPILLER. They also had at least one other son, William Hale. At some point they moved to the Panhandle of Texas around Plainview in Hale County. On January 10, 1892, my grandmother, Martha May, married Byron E. Hixson and their marriage was recorded in the Hale County records. A cousin remembers my grandmother telling about living on a ranch that either Micage owned or worked on and Pat Garrett stopping by for water on his way to New Mexico. Micage seems to be the proverbial "lost" relative because I haven't been able to find him in any Texas census. Any help anyone can give will be appreciated. dj2836@aol.com Jonna Whatley Houston, TX

My grandfather, Will Townsend had a gun which I now have. It is an authentic 1875 Colt 45 revolver (I have a letter from Colt to prove this). It was always said to me that Uncle Tommy Townsend bought it in case he had to shoot John Wesley Hardin. Do you have any knowledge of the Townsends in Comanche County at this time? Thanks, Jean Budden
