He had a son, possibly 2 other children, by a woman named Elizabeth Gowen (McGowen family?), they were not married. Their eldest son was Richard Field Hoff who was my husbands G- Grandfather. Born April@1858 in Gainesville, Cooke Co. Elizabeth did marry an N.M. Jones in Gainesville Aug@1872. Jones had married Field Hoff's sister in April of the same year, Jones abandoned the Hoff sister shortly after their marriage. In September @1872 N.M. & Elizabeth Gowen Jones took Field Hoff's children and headed into the Indian Territory/Oklahoma. Field, an older brother Richard Hoff and a younger brother John/James Hoff along with two friends followed the Jones group catching up with them just south of the Red River where the Hoff group was turned back. Field would never see his children again. He died in 1921 in Gainesville, TX. He was born in Virginia @1846. We are searching for anyone who may have info on N.M. Jones and 2 sons of his from a previous marriage; one was about Richard Field Hoff's age and is suppose to be the explorer Arthur Jones. Also any info on Elizabeth Gowen and any relation she may have been to the McGowen family of Cooke County, TX.
