TOWN APPRECIATION – Many articles have been discussed in this column and I do
think we need to be constantly on the move to make our town a better place, but
sometimes I wonder if we appreciate what we have in our town? What does it
stand for?
Friendliness makes a town and helps bring people together and with this we have a prosperous town and community.
There are few towns, if any, with a population of 500 that has two strong banks, four churches loyal and true, four grocery stores ready and willing to serve you at all times. There are still many other businesses of which we should appreciate, namely: an affiliated school with well prepared teachers, a first class barber and tailor shop, plenty of filling stations and one unusual garage and Chevrolet dealer, cafe and restaurants to satisfy that daily hunger, an ice house where your holiday dreams come true, and shoe shop where soles are saved with a smile. Now say we must not forget our drug stores and pharmacies, three cream stations and produce houses, up-to-date hardware and dry goods stores, two physicians, a number one Lumber yard, and a class A post office. Just take inventory who could ask for anything more? Do we appreciate our town as we should? Remember back of it all is the Valley View Community Board of Trade ready at all times to help solve your problems.
Now that we have before us what our community has to offer, what have you as an individual done to help this town progress? Have you been a detriment or an asset? Do you do banking business in Gainesville or some other town? Do you go to church when you feel well, when it is convenient or when you have no other plans? Do you buy groceries in Valley View when you can’t get somewhere else, get out of funds, or maybe just Saturday specials? We could go on and on asking questions but in a few words, do you just trade at home when you have to for one reason or another? Valley View will never grow if every person merely used it for mere convenience.
It is estimated that if everybody would spend their money at home with home merchants business in Valley View would increase 25 per cent. That extra 25 per cent spent with many of our merchants would make a big difference in business here. It would mean better salaries for many working people. The buying public would benefit in the long run.
The citizenship of Valley View is no more or no less than one big family. No one lives to himself.
A loyal and patriotic citizenship to its business interests means success to any community.
It’s a business proposition, and good business too, to spend your home made dollars at home. You not only help the other fellow but you help yourself and your town.
Did you ever take a trip and then returning home realize, although you have covered many miles and had a wonderful vacation, there is no place like home? So lets all pull together and strive to keep it a community that we will be proud to call home.
In conclusion, do you as a citizen appreciate the service of the person in the business world?
Did you ever stop to think what is expected of a person behind the counter or an employee? Always in a good humor, a kind word and pleasant smile is the answer of one, which is very true. You can be of much help to that employee. After all they have feelings just as you have and should be respected. If your purchase is not perfect do you say unkind things? Think of this the next time such a situation exists and remember everyone is subject to mistakes.
“What would Valley View be if every citizen in the community was just like me?” ask yourself that question.
