Blowout win points to Lions’ growth
Having dropped six of its last seven games in 2021, Ponder opened its season with plenty of positive signs.
It dominated Valley View 61-14, (64-14, NLN) in a game the Lions led 57-0 at halftime. Quarterback Clifton Cooper threw for 505 yards and seven touchdowns while running for another score in Ponder’s up-tempo offense. How well the offense can continue to produce will help determine whether the Lions contend for a playoff spot and beyond.

Notes; Ponder showed to have an awesome QB with receivers who could catch the ball on full run. Ponder showed strong lines on both sides of the ball. Only weakness all night was not good on making extra point kicks. They didn’t attempt any punt on fourth down but went for it even in long yardage such as 4th and 40 which resulted in a long touchdown pass. The clock allowed to ran full in 2nd half of ballgame with Ponder playing subs. Ponder played hurry-up offense which seemed to be very effective against the Eagles.
Late in game Valley View scored twice. First extra point kick was good by Molly Moss and 2nd extra point kick was good by Emma Moss.
Eagle fans were treated to both schools bands which performed outstanding.
