Joel J. Swain developed the plat for the Townsite of Stilwell, Crane County. It was a part of Section 7, Block 6, Certificate #40/4831, H & T.C. RY CO. Survey, Crane County, containing 271 acres. Broadway was to be the main street and was 75 feet wide and remaining streets named after states were 50 feet wide. The cross streets were numbered from First to Fifteenth. It was located South of Juan Cordona Lake. Swain registered 99 deeds starting in 1910 when the lots sold for $40.00 until 1920 when the lots were a bargain at $10.00. The first deed was to Nicholas Dehech, with the second going to James S. Napier, both men of Iowa, Swain was from Missouri.
