Watson Family Cemetery
Contributor, Sylvia Smith
The Cemetery is located on private property between Italy and Avalon on Highway 34. Family descendants have repaired broken stones and fenced the cemetery.
Richard Watson is presumed buried here. A new gray granite tombstone has been erected which reads:
Richard Price Watson
Born Virginia 1792
Died Here 11 Feb 1860
63rd Cavalry Regt, Virginia Militia
War of 1812
The only other known burial here is the Colonel's wife, Margaret R. Overstreet Watson. It is believed other family members may be buried in unmarked graves. Olney Watson, the Colonel's grandson, was definitely in this plot but no marker exists.
From June 1999 issue of Ellis County Historical Commission Newsletter,
