Felterberger 1965 Contributed by Jean Caddel On Sunday afternoon, Aug. 25, 1878, Elder Addison Clark enrolled twenty eight people as members of the first Christian Church of Waxahachie.  shortly afterward a frame building was erected in the 4th block of West Main Street.  Chalmers McPherson, a native of Kentucky, served four years as minister.  After his resignation in 1882, he was followed by G. A. Faris, who served two years, and in March 1885, rev. McPerson returned.  the building burned in 1893 and a brick house of worship was built across the street from the original location. After this time, things went well for the church.  In 1899 it was noted that "all apportionment from our boards have been met and Waxahachie is on the Roll of Honor."  It was instrumental in the organization of Boyce and reorganization of Rockett.  Miss Ruth Musgraves went to the Congo as a missionary from this church in 1918.  Easter sunrise services first begun in 1938 have become a tradition.  A beautiful set of Baptistry doors was given the church in 1929 by Mrs. J. P. Kennedy and Mrs. C. L. Brady in memory of their mother,.  Another gift was made by Mrs. Quincy Davis Getzendaner, who, in her will left a fifty acre tract near Rocket -  the revenue to be divided into thirds to: the "Juliette Homes.": the T.
