Onward
Onward was once a live and progressive "mountain town" lying five miles
northeast of Midlothian near Walnut Road on Highway 1387. It was known
as a "mountain town" because it, like Midlothian, is situated on what we
Texans call the "Whiterock Mountain," though others will ask, "Where is the
mountain?" It is a home owning community with a good church and school.
A few years ago, the old Christian Church building was still
standing.
Some of the early settlers were "Uncle" Joe Munden, Squire Bryson, S.
V. Buxton and John Bryson, who moved to Lancaster, but lived in Onward for
thirty to forty years. They have always received rural mail, and consider
Midlothian their trade center.
