Walnut Springs
Walnut Springs is located about two miles east of India on FM 780 or Trinity
Basin Road. This was one of the earliest predominately Black communities
in Ellis County. The only thing left to remind one of this lost community
is the Cemetery located at 789 and Hall Road. It has been badly neglected
and through the years erosion has caused a great deal of damage. Some
work has been done to correct this problem and we would hope that it may
be kept in better shape in the future. There are still some markers
left standing but many are gone. A few of the names still legible are:
Annie Clumpy, Dec. 4, 1871 - August 22, 1919; Lincoln Watson, December 8,
1876 - February, 1912 and W. M. Nutter May 10, 1845 - August 20, 1914.
