served a short time in the RW. In his earlier years he was allied with the
party then known as Republican and at one time was an ardent supporter of
Andrew Jackson. He was a member of the Methodist Church for many years. He
moved to Wilson County Tenn. about 1800 where he died in 1846.
Riley Davis was born in Wilson County April 5, 1821 and lived there until
he came to Texas in 1851, first settling in Collin County and moving to Ellis
County in May 1854. He has been almost exclusively engaged in agriculture,
although he served as surveyor of Ellis County 1857-1860.
R. A. Davis married Mary Pauline Sweatt (daughter of Edward Sweatt) Oct.
22, 1845 in Wilson Co, Tenn. Their six children: James Samuel, Fidella,

days has made it possible for him to spend his latter days in peace and
comfort.
