Camp Winnie Davis No. 108 U. C. V.
Waxahachie, Texas March 29, 1910

Comrades:  We your committee appointed to write a memorial on the death of Comrade Robert John, Italy Texas. Report as follows.

Comrade John departed this life on February 27, 1910, at his home near Italy, Ellis County Texas.  He was born in Mays County Mo. Oct. 1, 1841, was married to Mattie Frances Hardeman Dec. 27, 1868 at Chambers Creek church in Ellis Co. Texas from which union there were eleven children, nine sons and two daughters.  Six of whom, four sons and two daughters, survive him.  His wife died June 30, 1906.  He came to Texas in 1859 and lived in the community in which he died to the time of his death.  He was a consistent Christian and a member of the first christian Church at Iraly and an elder in the church.  Comrade John joined Company E, 12th Texas Cavalry 1861 Capt. Browns, Parsons Regiment.  He was in several battles but was never wounded.  He was transferred to co C 19th Texas Cavalry Cpt. Carr Forrest, Col. Watsons Regiment, Parsons Brigade and was disbanded at Marlin Texas May 23, 1865, and came home.  He was a dutiful husband, a kind father, an upright man, loved and honored by his neighbors and his death caused a serious loss to the community.  We humbly bow to the will of almighty God who was pleased to remove Comrade John from us to be seen no more until we answer the Roll call with him in that happy land beyond this vale of tears.

Respectfully submitted:

J. W. Price, W. A. Watson, Alex Mosely, Committee
