Ent Conf Serv Sept. 15, 1862 Pvt Co H 17 Regt La Inft; present at Chickasaw Bayou, Miss., Port Gibson, Miss. Siege of Vicksburg; taken prisoner July 4, 1863 Vicksburg - released July 1864; disch May 1865. Paroled on the surrender of Vicksburg to Gen. Grant. and remained under parole until July 1864. Re-entered Conferate Service and performed duty around Alexandria, La. at which place I was order to return to my home by Col. R. Richardson, then commanding Brigade CSA.

WESLEY C. [H] KIDD was 85 years old when he applied for pension in 1930. He had lived in Ellis County since December 13, 1874. He lived in Rose Hill, Louisiana, and enlisted in Co. H, 17 La, Infantry, on Sept. 15, 1862, and was discharged in May, 1865, about the close of the war.

"I N. C. Hall do hereby certify that I served in Co. H. 17th Louisiana Infantry, Civil War, with the applicant W. H. Kidd. We both enlisted at the same time - Sept. 15, 1862 at Vicksburg, Mississippi. I have known him all my life. We were raised in the same neighborhood."

"The records show that W. H. Kidd, Co. H, 17th Louisiana In., C.S.A., enlisted September 19, 1862, at Vicksburg.

"Muster roll Jan. & Feb. 1862, (the latest on file.) Shows him present, a Private.

"Prisoner of War records show that he was captured July 4, 1863, at Vicksburg, Miss., and paroled July 10, 1863, at same place, a Private.

"His name appears on an undated List of officers & men belonging to Allen's Brigade, who have reported in Camp for Exchange, a Private.

("Other records indicate that the men on this List were prisoners of war who had been paroled at various Camps of Exchange in the Trans-Miss. Dept., on or before April 1, 1864).

"No later record found. Not found as Wesley H. Kidd."

Application for Mortuary Warrant

Wesley H. Kidd died on the 21st day of May, 1932, near the town of Waxahachie, County of Ellis, Texas, in his home.

Warrant applied for by Eugene Kidd, son, who lived at 915 E. Marvin, Waxahachie, Texas.

Certificate of Undertaker: Will Farley, Undertaker, that he had charge of the body to be prepared for burial.

Certificate of Physician. Dr. J. B. Jenkins, Waxahachie, attended Wesley H. Kidd in his last illness and was of the opinion that his ailments were Cancer of face.
