Big Oak Hill on Wilson creek, Aug. 10, 1861 "A Confederate victory." May '62 joined Co D, First Bat. Tex. Sharpshooters Gen. Maxey's Brigade, east of Miss. Was in fight at Ft. DeRusey, La. that captured the gun boat Queen of the West. Disch close of war 1865. Born April 23, 1834, Weakley Co. Tenn.

E P Killebrew was born April 23, 1834 in Weakley Co. Tenn., the youngest
of six children. my Mother deceased in the year 1853 my father in the
year 1855 with my married Brothers came west to the then Territory of Kansas
1855 was there Through the Trouble in 1860 when I came to Grayson county
Texas. Was married to Miss Frances J. Baxter Daughter of Capt. John J. and
Ruth Baxter of Newton County Missouri on the 14th August 1856 and Lived in
Cherokee County Kansas rite where Baxter Springs is at this time as we all
saw war was coming I came south to Texas in Nov 1864 in the early Spring
in April My wife's Mother which was a widow with a Family of Girls and Small
children Lived in southwest Missouri Sent for me to come and help her Get
to Texas I arrived in Missouri in May about the 20th 1861 Joined the Missouri
State Troops under Gov Jackson was appointed as Scout and Reporter for Gen
Jeff Thompson who was at Belmont SE Missouri my duty was watch and Report
the movement of the Union Army under Gen Seigle which was moving on Neosho
when Gov Jackson had convened the Legislature was met at Carthage Mo on the
3 of July by Gov Jackson and Gen James [?] and Defeated retreated back to
st. Louis on the 10th of august 1861 was fought the Oak Hill on wilson Creek
Battle which was another Complete victory for CSA Southwest chance to come
back to Texas which we did in November 1861 In May 1862 volunteered in Company
D first Bat Texas sharp shooters commanded by Jas Burnett Gen S B Maxey Brigade
East of Mississippi River while stationed at Ft DeRusey La on our way east
no other Forces but one small Six gun Battery at the Fort one of the two
Iron Clad Gun Boats that had Passed Vicksburg came up Red River and attacked
the Fort its name was Queen of West we captured the whole outfit without
any loss in six hours we had the Boat in good fix as she ever was our Battalion
moved her and the webb a wooden gun Boat we had at alexandria La and down
Red River to the mouth went up the Mississippi River came up the Indianola
and attacked and sunk her and captured crew ammunition guns all complete
no loss then went down the Mississippi to Port Hudson on the 14th March Admiral
Farragut with his entire fleet of 110 gun Boars and Transports made the
Grand effort to Pass up the River but was Badly Defeated went Back
down the river Bad Crippled many Boats Sunk Left Port Hudson for Jackson
Miss was in the 8 flight at Jackson from Jackson we went to Mobile Al a and
was on Provo duty Gen Maxey being promoted to a Maj General the first tex
sharp shooters was ordered to Escort Gen Maxey to the Trans Miss Department
we made the Boats we crossed the Miss river at Mobile Ala Some times we would
ship them on the RR sometimes on wagons sometimes carry them on our shoulders
the country was full of yankie soldiers we Spent the remainder of the war
in the Indian Territory was near Ft smith Ark when Gen Gano and Strn Watie
Captured the Kansas 6th the meanest Regt in the yankee army and out Bat had
them to guard til them was sent to tyler Tex when we was ordered April 1865
to Hemstead Tex war closed Before we got there Returned to Grayson County
and went home
