John M. Kirk was 81 years old May 12, 1899. He had resided in Waxahachie,
Ellis County over 21 years. His occupation was a Mattress Maker. He
was very feeble and was disabled because of age.
Served in Capt. D. Fields Co & Col. D. Hollands Regt about 12
months.
Signed July 25, 1899
Witness - John W. Fite , 83 yrs. old, who resided in Panola County, Texas,
stated that J. M. Kirk was in Capt Renfroes Co. in Hollands Baty. He was
in the Confederate Army about 7 months in 186(0) & 1861.
J. M. Kirk must be considerably over 60 yrs old. I think he is near my
age - from 80 to 84, if he is still living.
He never deserted the Confederacy.
Witness - Col. E. S. Hull was 81 years old and resided at Carthage, Panola
Co., Texas.
I personally know he was in the Confederate Army. He enlisted in Capt.
Renfroes Co., Col. D. Hollands Bat in the fall of 1863 and was in that part
of the army until in the spring of 1864, about 7 months.
He has been gone from Panola County for several years.
I think J. M. Kirk must be near my age, 81, or older.
Filed Sept. 27, 1899; approved Sept. 27, 1899.
