Pension Application #42623

J[AMES] M. LANCASTER was born in Tenn.  and was 82 years of age when he applied for pension Dec. 8, 1926. He had been in Ellis County, Texas for 72 years, and lived in Waxahachie. He stated that he was in good physical condition and, had no occupation at the time, owned his home valued at $1,000 and other property valued at $800 (Verified by the Tax Assessor)

He served for 3 yrs. 9 mos in Co. F, 12th Texas Cav., Parsons Brig, which was organized at the court house square, Waxahachie, Aug. 22, 1861, and honorably discharged on Little River, Texas, about May 24 or 25, 1865.

Witnesses B. C. Lancaster & J. C. Reagor, who made oath to the following:

"We were each in Co. F, 12th Texas with J. M. Lancaster and were all in the 27 day fight after General Banks. In the State of La., fighting at Mansfield, Nacatosh, Pleasant Hill and other points.

I, B. C. Lancaster, a brother to J. M. Lancaster, state further that the said J. M. Lancaster was a mesmate of mine."

Washington, Dec. 17, 1926

"The records show that James M. Lancaster, Co. F, 12th Texas Cavalry C.S.A., enlisted October 28, 1861, at Hempstead, Texas.

"Muster roll Sept. 31 to Dec. 31, 1862, dated Dec. 19,, 1864, (latest on file) shows him present, a Private.

"Capture, parole or later record not found."

Application for Mortuary Warrant

"I, O. H. Chapman, do hereby certify that I am the person to whom is entrusted the paying of the accounts and indebtedness of the late J. M. Lancaster, who was a pensioner of the State of Texas...........

".......... J. M. Lancaster died on the 17th day of Jany, 1932, in the town of Waxahachie, County of Ellis, Texas.

"The pensioner died in the home of W. L. Fulks, who was............no relation.

"I am related to the pensioner as (Friend) and executor under will and atty, that my postoffice address is ...... Box 511, Waxahachie, Texas."

Signed 22 day of Jany, 1932, by O. H. Chapman.

Certificate of Undertaker:  W. R. Rudolph was the undertaker in Waxahachie, Ellis Co., Texas that had charge of the body on the 17th day of Jan. 1932.

Certificate of Physician:  Dr. R. H. Looney attended J. M. Lancaster in his last illness, and was of the opinion that his ailments were Pneumonia.
