April 11, 1919
Mr. George W. Lawrence
Midlothian, Texas
Dear Sir:
Replying to your favor of April 10:
Your attention is directed to the last clause in Art. 6278, R. C. S., which
reads: "and no pensioner who leaves this State for a period of over six months
shall not draw a pension while so absent." An opinion of the Attorney General
by which this Department is governed, holds that the intention to become
the citizen of another State can draw six months pay during such absence
after which he will forfeit his pay until his return to this State when he
will be re-instated and his payments begun from the date of his return.
I find that one warrant was issued you while you were absent from this State
for the quarter ending May 30, 1918. You were entitled to another quarter's
pay and I am enclosing affidavit for the quarter ending Aug. 31, 1918. On
receipt of this affidavit properly filled out a warrant will be issued and
mailed to your address.
Yours very truly
