Resolution of Respect

Waxahachie, Tex. March 2, 1908
To Officers and Members of Camp Winnie Davis

Your committee appointed to draft resolutions on the death of Comrade Wm Schuster submit the following:

Comrade Schuster was born at Saxony, Germany January 26, 1844 and soon after reaching majority emigrated to the United States.  It was one  [member's] of the committee pleasure to know Comrade Schuster from his early manhood and for many years closely associated with him in business, and in all his dealings he possessed that noble spirit that characterized him through life.

He enlisted in the Confederate army in 1865, joining Company G twenty-fourth and twenty-fifth regiment, consolidated, Walkers Division. Was married at Brenham, Texas and as a result of this marriage leaves two sons and one daughter, Carol and William Schuster and Mrs. C. W. Walters, all of this city.  His wife, the bosom companion of his life, departed this life April 8, 1882 at this city.  He died Feb. 7, 1908.

A good man has passed away. Comrade Schuster is dead. Only at our last meeting we placed upon him the mantle of chaplain for our camp.  Worthily would he have worn it buy the Master called and he obeyed the summons.  The camp has lost one of its most regular and devoted members, the Presbyterian church one of its most true and faithful members and the community one of the most useful citizens.  He was the main stay of his church to which  he was so devoted that the membership looked to him for council and guidance.  His love and fidelity to the "Lost Cause" will keep fresh and green in the hearts of his comrades.  He was quiet and gentle as a woman, quiet in all the walks of life, he loved his friends and neighbors, he loved and was devoted to his family in whose great loss the camp sympathizes deeply but he has gone to his Father's house. May that Father lead him gently through the meadow valley where the river flows in sweet song eternal is the prayer of your committee.

Respectfully submitted:

W. J. F. Ross, H. F. Inglehart, Committee
