William Thomas Stuart
[Obituary from Waxahachie Daily Light Nov. 24, 1923]
W. T. Stewart, 84, Confederate veteran and one of the oldest citizens
of Waxahachie, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Will Moore, at 3 pm
Tuesday afternoon.
He was born in White County, Tenn. Dec. 23, 1837 and came with his family
to Texas as a small boy, settling near Long Branch, this county. He
fought with the CSA and was a member of the Winnie Davis Camp, U. C. V.
Mr. Stewart spent a number of the last thirty years in far west Texas
and other western states engaged in mine prospecting. For the last nine years
he and his wife have lived with Mrs. Moore.
He is survived by hie wife and five children: Mrs. Moore; Mrs. Ida Held,
El Paso, Mrs. C. T. Tyson, Los Angeles; Tom L. Stewart, Idaho Falls, Idaho,
Charles W. Stewart, Panama Canal Zone.
