Entered Conf Serv August 1861 Sgt Co F, 1st Miss Infantry; promoted to Lt. April 1865; present at Fort Donaldson, Fort Hudson, La., Siege of Atlanta, Hoods raid to Nashville, Battle of Bentonville, NC; wounded at Port Hudson in foot & arm; taken prisoner Feb. 16, 1862 Fort Donaldson; released Aug 1862 Vicksburg; paroled May 1865. I am now 65 years old and live at Forreston, Tex. Born in Marion Co. Miss. 1839. Came to Texas from Miss. 1869. Settled in Ellis. Married in 1873 to Miss M. L. Gibbons.  [Died 1915]

Another Dear Comrade J. P. Wilson has winged its flight to a better world. He died on Jany --- 1915? Comrade Wilson was one whom everyone who knew him loved.  He was a brave soldier a loving husband & Father. Joined the 1st Regiment f Co Mississippi Infantry and was elected Sargt and was promoted to Lieutenant apr 1865 and participated in all of the battles fought by his regiment 1st at Port Hudson through all of the engagements of Johnsons? Army. Fought with Genl Hood in his famous Raid to Nashville embracing ---- Franklin Columbia [rest missing]

Additional information: He was born in Marion Co. Mississippi in 1839 and came to Texas in 1869. He was married to Miss M. L. Gibbons in 1873 and lived in Forreston in 1899.
