Buried Treasure in Ellis County?

Special to The News. Waxahachie, Tex. May 25. An unusual
document was filed in the County Clerk's office here today. It reads
in part: "That whereas, R. L. Eddleman and C. C. Harpold have reason to....
believe that valuable treasure of gold amd silver are hidden in Ellis County,
Texas, on the land of J. V. Clark, and for the priviledge for searching for
said treasure, this agreement is entered into by said J. V. Clark, C. C.
Harpold and R.L. Eddleman, that should said treasure be found, said persons
are each to receive one-third. Clark grants Harpold and Eddleman the
right to search and dig for such treaure on all his land provided crops are
not molested and Harpold and Eddleman bind themselves to prosecure their
search at once."
All the parties live at Italy, this county! This instrument is duly
executed and acknowledged and filed for record.
