Akins - Culbertson Marriage
Waxahachie Enterprise - November 1, 1889
Miss Annie E. Akins and J. C. Culbertson were married Tuesday evening,
Oct. 29, 1889, at the home of the bride's father (A. J. Akins) on Grove
Creek. Rev. T. B. Criddle officiated. The bride and groom took
the evening train for San Angelo and other places in west Texas. [Evidently
just a wedding trip and not to make a new home]
The bride is one of the most popular young ladies in Grove Creek and the
groom a worthy gentleman. The newly-weds have the best wishes of the Enterprise.
[Barbara Knox had the idea that she could rewrite editorials to make them sound better, and would do this even when transcribing historical documents. These two articles are likely to be one in the same as one or both could have been rewritten by her. In this case, even a third version was found where she deleted about half of the announcement. It would be wise to locate the original newspaper clipping(s) to verify the facts for yourself. -- Rob Yoder]
